I've done it. It's actually not a bad way to show someone what shifting is like before they try to learn to drive stick too

I used to do that in my old wrangler occasionally, but she drove a manual too, so no big deal.

My SO can’t keep his mitts off my suede shifter while I’m driving, so it sometimes ends up like the top photo anyway.
